Late last week, Amazon announced its quarterly earnings--which disappointed Wall Street by failing to meet expectations. During the earnings conference call, executives mentioned a potential price hike (from $20 to $40) for its Amazon Prime service.

Another week, another slew of Apple TV rumors…only anticipation of Richard Sherman's post-Super Bowl interview created as much excitement last week. But, this time, sleuthers might be on to something.

GigaOm recently published an article citing some pretty dramatic piracy data: a new report is out that says ABC's restriction for next-day online viewing to cable customers and Hulu Plus subscribers has led to a 300 percent increase in illegal downloads (for one specific show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Numbers like this, of course, give us pause.

The end of each calendar year offers us a time to reflect on the previous 12 months and to hypothesize on what we can expect in the new year. This is always a fun exercise, even though, let’s face it, making assumptions about the future is 90 percent - informed but with a little whimsy added for good measure - conjecture.
