Detroit Symphony Orchestra: Now Playing On Demand

Today’s sophisticated audiences are accustomed to consuming online content whenever and wherever they please. For Detroit Symphony Orchestra, recognized for trailblazing performances and collaborations with the world’s foremost musical artists, this means keeping up with this evolving digital demand. Today the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is announcing Replay, a new service that lets fans stream performances on-demand in HD video. This new offering is a result of DSO’s partnership with Brightcove, the leading online video platform.

Replay is a much-anticipated video music experience, drawing from an archive of more than 100 performances and clips originally performed on the orchestra’s “Live From Orchestra Hall” webcast series. Detroit Symphony Orchestra is the first American orchestra to make its performance archive available on-demand. Fans of DSO will soon enjoy on-demand performances from the symphony’s musical archives, as well as new content added just days after each live performance.

Prior to Replay, “Live From Orchestra Hall” footage was only available through special encore broadcasts on dso.org/live or through YouTube clips. The new Replay experience has enabled DSO to move beyond YouTube, centralizing video content and creating an engaging experience for audiences around the world.

Built on Brightcove Video Marketing Suite, Replay is a fully branded, on-demand video portal experience, supporting hundreds of videos today, with the ability to scale as DSO grows their library of performances in the future. The Replay experience works across any device and screen with navigation that makes it easy for viewers to browse content by composer, date, or through a rotating series of curated playlists such as “Virtuoso Violin,” “Living Composers,” “Passionate Piano,” and many more.

Works currently available for streaming cover myriad eras of the classical genre, including classics by Beethoven and Mozart, 20th century masterpieces, and a sampling of works by living composers. Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, John Corigliano’s “Red Violin” Concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade are just a few of the popular pieces available on Replay.

Check out the new Replay service and receive two complimentary minutes of streaming. The free two-minute sample is available to the general public to give a taste of the high-quality music and video experience available via the service. The DSO’s approximately 5,000 annual fund supporters who give at the $50 level or greater are immediately eligible to use the new service to its full extent. If you would like to join the annual fund with a gift of $50 or more, you will receive full access.
