Bringing Video Cloud to Apple TV: The Brightcove Native Player SDK for tvOS

Brightcove has long offered customers several ways to deliver content to the Apple TV platform. With the September announcement of the next gen Apple TV, we launched our Jump Start for Apple TV™ program with the goal of helping content publishers quickly and affordably create powerful experiences on the new Apple TV without spending the developer resources and time to do so. Along with the newly “open” platform, the other Apple TV news that created tremendous excitement here at Brightcove was the introduction of tvOS. Today, we are pleased to release the Brightcove Native Player SDK for tvOS that will help customers easily develop native applications for, and deliver Video Cloud content to, Apple TV. Access to the SDK is included with Brightcove Video Cloud and Brightcove Perform.

The initial release of Brightcove’s tvOS SDK provides a solid foundation for the playback of Video Cloud assets including an integration with the Media and Playback APIs as well as full Video Cloud analytics support. Content owners can easily leverage their assets and video metadata to create tvOS applications which captivate their audiences and gather comprehensive analytics data. Built with developers in mind, the SDK caters to those familiar with iOS development and exposes underlying components that allow for changes or additions to be made on a whim.

We are excited to have released the Brightcove Native Player SDK for tvOS and look forward to adding incremental functionality such as support for FairPlay DRM in Video Cloud that will help publishers build powerful video experiences for their customers on Apple TV. We will continue to update the SDK for tvOS and its documentation as this new functionality becomes available. Interested in more information? Contact your Account Manager for details.
