Kompas Embraces Indonesia's Digital Future with Video

According to a recent survey by media research firm, Millward Brown, Indonesia has 74.6 million Internet users who engage in more active screen time than any other nation globally. The research house also reports that tech-savvy Indonesian consumers are devoting an average of nine hours per day watching video on multiple devices -- two hours more than the global average of seven hours. However, this comes as no surprise with Indonesia placing 4th - behind China, India and America - in terms of the most number of mobile subscribers in a country.

With video becoming a significant part of the communication and social sharing habits of the typical Indonesian consumer, we are excited to announce our partnership with Kompas Gramedia, Indonesia’s largest media conglomerate, and owner of Kompas.com, to re-launch their news website as part of their video content strategy.

As a leading news site in the region with 43 million unique viewers monthly, Kompas wanted to drive further engagement and retain visitors on their site by adopting a revamped content strategy around original productions that provide light, entertaining, hip, relatable and shareable video content. This new focus helps Kompas reach and engage a younger generation of audiences, getting their daily appetite of news, facts and lifehacks, all from a single, trusted online destination.

Kompas.com will be powered by the new Brightcove Video Cloud, which includes our mobile and HTML5-first video player, to easily publish video with the speed and agility required of breaking news organisations, and to effectively monetise snackable video content that is increasingly consumed on mobile screens and across social media channels.

At the core of this new partnership is the prospect of leveraging video for all of its potential to transition Kompas from its traditional print media roots, into a digital media news organisation.

We are incredibly excited for what’s in store for Kompas’ bright future with video.
