We are excited to announce that Brightcove has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Zencoder, a leading cloud-based encoding service and creator of Video.js, a popular open source HTML5 video player. I am very excited to welcome the entire Zencoder team to Brightcove, and especially the three co-founders who I have had the chance to get to know fairly well over the last few months, Jon Dahl, Steve Heffernan, and Brandon Arbini.
Among the top four commercial cloud encoding services, Zencoder is rated 2X-10X faster by CloudHarmony, an independent cloud benchmarking company. Zencoder has an exceptional track record of innovation, operational performance, and service with more than 1,000 satisfied customers, including PBS, Scripps Networks Interactive, IGN, SmugMug, Yammer, TwitVid, College Humor, Funny or Die, and many more.
Video.js was built as an HTML5 player from the ground up and we think it is the best free, open, HTML5 player in the market. It has seen tremendous adoption, rapidly rising to one of the top 10 video players in just two years. Video.js is used on tens of thousands of websites from organizations around the world including Montblanc, Dolce & Gabbana, Diesel, Illy, Applebee's, Mattel, Kellogg's, Les Echos, Scripps Networks Interactive, U.S. Navy, Aetna, Transamerica, Washington State University, and many others.
Both Zencoder and Video.js will continue to be offered as distinct, stand-alone offerings alongside other Brightcove cloud content services, such as Video Cloud and App Cloud. Current and prospective customers can rest assured that Brightcove is fully committed to undisrupted success with Zencoder products and services. There are no planned changes to pricing or terms of service.
Brightcove also plans to incorporate key Zencoder technologies into future versions of Video Cloud and App Cloud. Over time, the ingestion and transcoding system within Video Cloud will include advanced features, additional control and premium performance provided by Zencoder.
Zencoder and Video.js have exciting new features and service offerings currently under development. Brightcove plans to invest resources to hasten and enhance the release of these new capabilities and to accelerate the pace of adoption worldwide.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the Zencoder acquisition is the addition of an extremely talented team to the Brightcove family. The Zencoder office in the San Francisco SoMa area will become the Brightcove Bay Area R&D Center. This R&D center will join our Boston and Seattle R&D centers as hubs for development of Brightcove products and services. I love the talent, passion and focus of all the folks I have met so far from Zencoder and welcome them to the larger team.
