Brightcove Unveils Video Paywall Solution Framework & Google Widevine DRM Support

The path to success for media publishers today requires not only reliable and secure distribution across an increasingly fragmented device landscape, but also flexible monetization options that include both advertising and pay-media models. Today at the NAB conference, we announced two new ways in which we are helping media publishers to remove the cost and complexity that typically confronts these organizations as they look to expand their distribution and monetization opportunities across the Web, mobile devices and Smart TV platforms.

First, we introduced the Brightcove Video Paywall Solution Framework, which accelerates the introduction of paid video content services for media publishers by combining the scale, reliability and multi-screen reach of the Brightcove Video Cloud online video platform with best-in-class subscription management, payment processing, digital rights management (DRM) and content protection technologies, including Adobe Flash Access, Google Widevine, PayWizard, and TinyPass.

We also announced that Brightcove is now a Certified Widevine Implementation Partner (CWIP). As a CWIP, we open the door in the future for Brightcove Video Cloud online video platform customers to package, securely distribute, and protect playback of video content on more than 440 million consumer electronics devices through Google’s Widevine multi-platform digital rights management (DRM).

Widevine DRM will join Flash Access DRM and Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) encryption, giving Video Cloud customers end-to-end security and content protection for premium media content distribution across leading consumer devices.

The combination of our Video Paywall Solution Framework and Widevine DRM will create a robust foundation for digital media publishers to roll out revenue-generating pay media services across smartphones, tablets, PCs, and smart TVs.
