Happy Tuesday, Express users!
In case you haven’t heard the news through other channels, today we announced new capabilities for delivering video to Android devices. I want to highlight what this means for Express customers, but first you really must read Jeff Whatcott’s excellent blog post, which describes in detail the significance of our new developments.
Just a few years ago, if you wanted to watch video on the internet you were limited to your desktop computer. This morning, I watched a New York Times news video on my mobile phone during my commute. It’s becoming increasingly important for businesses of all sizes to have a strong mobile web presence, and a complete web strategy must include the ability to deliver your video content anywhere.
We’ve already built out our HTML5 experience to enable video delivery on Apple devices. Today's release takes advantage of Adobe’s Flash 10.1 and its compatibility with the Android 2.2 OS to increase your mobile reach:
- We made some tweaks to our player templates so that they're compatible with touch screen gestures. Additionally, all Express customers will see two new player templates in the Publishing Module, with larger controls that make them easier to use with touch screens.
- Express $499 customers can use our brand-new app SDK for Android to create native Android apps with Brightcove-powered video content.
Again, Jeff’s post is a must-read for anyone interested in reaching viewers at home and on-the-go (which you all should be, as mobile web usage will only become more ubiquitous). If you have any questions, be sure to let us know.
